The Wetland Portal of SA is a platform that supports a
‘Community of Practice’ around wetlands and has been
developed to assist the wetland community to evolve. A
Community of Practice is a group of people who share a
concern or a passion for something they do and learn how
to do it better as they interact regularly. In this
case, wetlands are the shared domain of interest.
The Portal consists of two sections – the website and
the discussion forum. Both of these combined are
attempting to form a social space for learning together
– from and with each other; through formal and informal
activities and from sources outside as well as inside
the wetland community. They allow the diverse members of
the wetland community to: share information; engage in
discussion; articulate perspectives; accumulate
knowledge; provide access to tools, projects, solutions,
and concepts; reveal interesting connections and form
relevant relationships. The Portal therefore does not
“belong” to anyone in particular but rather is the
responsibility of the wetland community as a whole. It
will remain unbranded to ensure it is kept as a
respectful learning space free of bureaucracy,
administration, judgement and preconceptions.
We hope the Portal provides the support needed and that
you find the sites valuable. Looking forward to your
interaction! |
